“Articles are a collection of information. Structured in some sequence that makes some sense. Articles are fine. They're just not stories. Stories are stories. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. They have characters. And these characters move through place and time and encounter obstacles. And they overcome these obstacles. Or they don't. Put there's conflict and there's resolution. Stories. Some people say, ‘I just want the facts.’ But these people are liars.”

"Saying Szuminsky goes above and beyond as a professor is an understatement. Aside from
teaching a full course load, advising the student newspaper, writing his doctorate dissertation
and being a devoted husband and father, Szuminsky still, somehow, found the time to work with
individual students. Rather than just giving grades back on articles, Szuminsky does a one-on-one
grading appointment for every article in every journalism class he has – something no other
professor at Waynesburg does."
